I know the web site hasn't been updated in over a year, and I know that's lame.... but
I've been very busy doing movie design and videos and crap, and being a new dad.
I'm working on a new website and more robots.
Here's a peek.

The
Silver Edition of the Hamilton-D6 is off to be chromed.
Now that's some sexy firepower! It's going to be on display at Noreascon
in Boston, along with a Deathray if I can get one ready by the deadline.

Thru
the magic of underground, no effort marketing (also know as dumb
luck) The
Electrolux Deathray commercial is being screened at the
FANTASIA sci-fi film festival in Montreal, Canada. Unfortunately
I won't be able to attend, so if your a local, or just happen to
be heading to the fest anyway, let me know how the show goes over.
Here is the Fantasia
site for more info on the July
24th show.
(dope..
site changed it's URL, link has been updated)
Some
new progress in the scale city from the Brotronian future. It may
drive me insane... but then why drive when it's walking distance?
The shot on the left is just a taste of how rediculously detailed
the models are.

The
new project.
So I'm finally going back to the drawing board (not the metaphoric
one) and working on a graphic novel. I don't want to hype it too
much while it's in progress but I'll tell a little bit about the
approach. It's a combination of sculpture and illustration. The
characters are drawn over scale background sets that are lit with
miniature lights kits. It has a really great look and it gives me
the opportunity to draw a book like I'm directing a film. It's infinitely
slower than just drawing backgrounds and could never be seen as
cost effective but I love doing it anyway. I'll try to make pieces
from the process available as I can to make up for the lapse in
sculpture production. When this book is done I promise to continue
building an army of robot woman to take over the earth. The poster
on your left appears painted on a building 5 stories high in the
background of a night time city scene. I drew the original with
plans of doing a limited edition printing... and here it is.
Propaganda
poster featuring the Hamilton D-6 Pulse Cannon. Limited edition
print of 100 signed and numbered. 23" x 31". Heavyweight matt stock.
Archival quality printing. $150.00
plus shipping.

Sidetracked
again.
I'm
on a new project that's going to require a lot of smaller scale
pieces. On the left is a shot of a robot lab surgery table that
is about 10 inches long. The rest of the lab is to follow along
with a few city blocks of the dark future of the past. I'll post
it all in the gallery as it becomes available.
I'll
have to pick up the casting experiment later. In the meantime if
your interested in learning more about casting metal check out Lindsay's
Technical Books. They are
a great source for all kinds of dangerous hobbies and experimentation.

Some
progress on the Girl 5 leg, but I've taken the knee back to the
drawing board and can't do much more till I figure out the way it
all connects with the new design.
The
good news is that I'm back in the foundry for mold making fun and
rubber tooling madness to produce simulated die castings. Click
on the photo below if you want take a step by step tour of the process.

This
is the first in a series of documented experiments that cover various
techniques I use. Let me know if you find them useful and would
like to see anything specific.

This
week was slow on the robot front because I'm still finishing up
new construction on the Lab. Unfortunately it's not the grand scheme
I had originally cooked up. Because of zoning regulations and setback
requirements I couldn't add the second story that would have been
really cool. It's still pretty cool, if a little crowded.
I
finally added a local exhaust fume extractor that makes welding
much more pleasant. It vents out of the roof and probably added
a few years to my life. The
tunes are running out of a 150 watt PA system that also runs the
audio for the playstation. It must sound like my neighborhood is
under attack when I play Metal of Honor.

Progress
has resumed on my life's work... an army of robot women to take
over the earth. The Girl5 prototype is evolving nicely and I have
begun targeting the bugs one by one.
I
was unhappy with the mechanics of my original foot design and undertook
a complete redesign last week. The new feet have a much more organic
feel. The positioning and balance is definitely improved.
The
pictures show the wire frame of the right foot in a few different
positions. The new lockable ball joints I developed are working
out nicely.
